LacrosseKids! Coach Ryan Burger

Like many kids Ryan was born into a baseball family and played from age 5 until 10. It was in middle school while living in Johnson City NY that Ryan expanded out into more sports to include football, skiing, wrestling, swimming and was first introduced to Lacrosse.  It wasn’t until 8th grade with the convincing of some coaches and teammates from other sports that Ryan was convinced to officially join the Lacrosse team. Ryan took to lacrosse very quickly and became an immediate starter at Attack on his middle school team. The following season Ryan Lettered in Lacrosse his Freshman and sophomore year.

Following his sophomore year due to a family move Ryan relocated to Frederick Maryland where his only option to continue playing was through club teams.  Ryan was an immediate starter for his new team earning All-Star Team honors his Junior and Senior year. It was at this same time during his junior year that Ryan got his first taste of coaching with implementing the offense for the Varsity team and contributing to teaching stick skills for the JV team

After graduating high school in 1999 Ryan continued to play in pick up games until he joined the Army in 2003. During his time in the Army Ryan always had his stick and a ball even taking them on deployments.  Fast forward to 2022 and Ryan’s son Logan started expressing interested in Lacrosse leading to becoming involved with Space Coast and the Kids Lacrosse program. Since that time Ryan has expanded into coach as an assistant coach for the Vierra JV Hawks, and Space Coast Kids Lacrosse.

LEARN TO PLAY LACROSSE!

For ages 5 and up; coed classes with games designed to hide the learning so kids can focus on having fun while simultaneously learning how to play the game.

Soft lacrosse requires gloves and sticks only and since there is no body checking allowed the ball is a modified soft rubber version of the regulation lacrosse ball.

Coach Ryan will referee and instruct the practices and games utilizing the "Pause, Learn, Play" (PLP) methodology.  This allows Ryan to stop the practice or game for no more than 30 seconds to discuss a coaching point with the player and allow the player to restart the game implementing the skill or tactic discussed with the coach thus reinforcing and assuring positive habits, decisions and tactics are being created.

Individual player development is monitored as players are allowed to additionally practice with and/or move to the recreational teams if recommended by the coach.
